Yes, I saw those too, P. Very good writing indeed.
I can also recommend the article about 'Boring Boring Football TV':

I think what we've seen so far is that England clearly
weren't
good enough to reach this competition. I can't see them getting many points at all, unless they were in the same group as Austria or Switzerland, but then again you could probably say that about most countries.
Re: Poll: Who do you think will win Euro 2008?,
by chriso
Absolutely. They played it tactically spot-on against the Dutch. Much as I wanted the Netherlands to win, I had to hand it to Hiddink for the way he got his team playing.

No one (including me) thinks Russia. Hmm how times change. When I voted they had to beat Greece to stay in the tournament. Now well I'd vote for them.
A Parallel World.,

I've been following (i.e reading) the guardian's coverage of the Euros very happily and have noticed a great bit in the days column. It lists one thing happening, such as todays was Van Basten preparing his team for penalties just in case, and lists another, funnier one which is in a parallel world where England qualified. It says today that McClaren prepares his team for penalty shootout loss to Turkey. However this also brought up intriguing questions for me. Would England have done well in this competition, would they have done as well as Croatia have and would they have beaten Austria!
Your thoughts.

Yes indeed. I'm very pleased with the eight teams through to the knock-out round. A good selection of sides that can play good football and hopefully provide a few fireworks.

Holland will possibly meet Spain in Semi if Spain beat Italy and Holland beat Russia. That should be a very good game.
Re: Euro 2008: Questions needing answers,

1: Crap defending and no leader. Also too many old players,
2: Holland definitely.
3: Possibly. Spain v Holland would be a great final. However I have a feeling Spain won't win.
4: Yes, they are poor and Romania will beat Holland while Italy draw with France.
Euro 2008: Questions needing answers,

So how would you answer the following:
Why have Italy struggled so much?
Who has been your team of the tournament so far?
Can Spain really win it this year?
Are France about to go out in the First Round?
Re: Which Euro 2008 Manager Would Be Best Suited For Premiership?,

How about Greece manager Otto Rehagel at Bolton?
Re: Which Euro 2008 Manager Would Be Best Suited For Premiership?,

Well it goes without saying that Bilic is a potential target for some clubs, including my team West Ham.
I could see Van Basten one day arriving at somewhere like Tottenham or Germany's Loew going to Portsmouth (for instance).
Which Euro 2008 Manager Would Be Best Suited For Premiership?,
by pshaw
Now we've all heard the news that Luiz Felipe Scolari has joined Chelsea, we're all starting to think which other manager's have impressed us. So instead of choosing players for the Prem from Euros. How about managers from the Euros. For me I could see ex Premiership players like Slaven Bilic and good managers such as Bennhakker and Hiddink finally coming. Your thoughts.

Just a bit of fun to spice up the tournament. You must have heard about Polish newspapers fun about the Germans. Well if you haven't, here it is.

Matchday 2 - Your thoughts,
by Chris O
I thought Poland gave a good account of themselves and certainly shouldn't be written off yet. Their next game should be interesting...
Croatia seemed a little below par, but that could be down to the same reason as the Czechs didn't look themselves (i.e. playing a host country with huge home support). Or maybe it was because of the absence of Eduardo? Could he really have such a big impact on the team alone?
As for Austria, I thought they looked more likely to score than their co-hosts, and with any luck they'll pick up some points in their remaining games. Pogatetz needs to calm down a bit, though...
Re: Matchday 1 - Your thoughts,
by weld-class
I think the Czechs will actually go through, can see them beating Turkey, starting the tournament against the host team is never an easy thing to do but can still see them being tough to beat as the games go on. Who knows, maybe even a sneaky point off the Portuguese too.
Agree re: Portugal though, they do look very good. Only thing they really lack (been the case for a long time) is an out and out front man. Get tired of the w@nk-fest over Ronaldo though
